Video: Loneliness in Prosperity
“Loneliness in Prosperity” is the video editing that I would like to emphasize the mental emotion of people being lonely in the prosperous city. They used to spend most of their time on their busy work and schedule; they used to forget to pull up their heads to see the beautiful blue skyline and take a breath. Their feeling of lonely and helpless sometimes exaggerated because they found themselves do not really fit into any group in the city.
The models in this video are dressed in black and white, which represented the dark and the bright side of each people in mind. They are painting their feelings towards the city. When the model in black paints the wave and the model in white paint the city, they are representing the controversial mental situations of many people in the city: I love the city, but I also want some quiet and calm space. At the end of the video, when the black and the white meet each other to paint in the same frame, I want to convey two things: the idea that neither one is really alone; the encouragement that the bright side of your mind will eventually give you a hand when you are suffering from very passive emotions. In addition to collecting the red rose and the gold paint in this video is because, if the red rose is the representation of wild and desire, and the gold is meaningful for worthy and bright, then when the gold paint is painted on the red rose, it becomes a wish for people’s ambitious dreams to be worth as coming true one day.
When I was working on filming the clips, I once again learned the lesson that reality is somehow different from the ideality. At the beginning of brainstorming process, I was thought to let the model leave some footprints with acrylic when she walked by. However, when I officially started to film the clip, I realized that the footprints could not work in my ideal shape so that the clip became awkward and the scene became a mess. I finally decided to cut off all parts of the footprint in editing because I believe that smooth and flow in the video sequence is way more important.
On the other hand, I found it was hard to make the camera static if I would like to film the movement. My hands always shake when I tried to capture the large movement. However, after I edit the video in Premiere, I understand that drawing the storyboard is important because it helps you to understand some general ideas include the frames you would really want to set in and what the transformation of each scene should be.
Overall, after I finish this project, I think the most satisfying thing is about I gladly see my improvement on video editing in the result.
