Food Map: Sustainable or Unsustainable?

For this project, we were conducting and comparing the differences in energy flows between sustainable and unsustainable food. The two objects that were chosen along with this topic avocado toast to be the sustainable one and BBQ chicken pizza for the unsustainable one. The reasons for us to select avocado toast and BBQ chicken pizza as the subjects are because we believe pizza and toast are relative since they are made by similar methods but with distinctive ingredients to make them either healthy or unhealthy.

In this group project, I am in charge of the unsustainable one, the BBQ chicken pizza. In the beginning, I struggled with categorizing the energy flows and representing them in circulation. However, after I started to think reversely from the end to the beginning, I realized that it could be as simple as primary, secondary, tertiary resources, etc, and each resource is interacting with the other resources in the energy flows.

To make these two posters be considered as aesthetical visualizations, we spent a lot of time on choosing the color schemes, designing and matching the icons in these two posters. Gladly, the two posters are typically the same style and they are successfully responded to each other. Nonetheless, if the emission marks are added to the poster, it can be more complete.

Overall, it is an impactful project experience. From the beginning of doing researches until the end of creating a poster with Illustrator, every section is interesting and reflective, I truly learned a lot from it.
